MOTION Coalition

Childhood obesity is not just a medical matter, but a community predicament.

Reflecting this dynamic, MOTION (Michigan Organizations To Impact Obesity & Nutrition) is comprised of stakeholders from youth organizations, such as Aetna,  Detroit Public Schools Community District, the Detroit Food Policy Council, MDHHS and other interested community organizations, such as the the Michigan Environmental Council, the Detroit Food and Fitness Collaborative – City Connect Detroit and the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan; to health care providers, including C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, Henry Ford Health System, Children’s Hospital of Michigan, and St. John Providence.

The mission of the coalition is to “accelerate organizational and community efforts that promote physical activity and healthy eating  to optimize health and well being.”

The vision statement, “Thriving children, thriving adults, thriving communities,” reflects the broad view that this group is taking on the issue of those with obesity disorder.
